Pinkerton Landcare and Environment Group has been working in the Werribee River volcanic gorge, which includes Cobbledicks Ford Reserve for many years. These works have been undertaken with Wyndham City Council, Melbourne Water and Clean Up Australia. The Clean Up Australia day was started in 2005 by Bev Ramsay, a local Mt. Cottrell resident.

The landcare activities include seed collection of grasses, herbs, shrubs and trees, propagation and planting of the endangered Werribee Blue Box tree (both sides of the river 2005 -2007), a stand of bulokes (in memory of John Todd, Crown Land Bailiff 10th April 1953 – Feb. 1995), as well as planting other native species.

Encouragement of natural regeneration of native plants has been achieved by working with the City of Wyndham’s Conservation Team and the Mt. Cottrell and Tarneit community by removing weeds from around naturally occurring native species at community and CVA working bees.
